Goodnight and Goodbye, 2025

I've been in pain all day, and the hours kind of ate up all the wonderful things I wanted to tell all of you.

I'll say more tomorrow, but for now, just know that I cherish all of you, and I hope that your New Years Eve will be, is being, or has been, as quiet or raucous as you want or wanted it to be.

I am so lucky to know all of you.

And may 2026 be good for all of us.

As has become traditional, we'll have two posts for the New Year. The old today, and the new tomorrow.

As the fires of 2025 becomes embers, we are reminded that it has seen us lose visionary creators including: Robert Orci, Jackson Guice, Peter David, Jim Shooter, Nancy Burton, Marie-Mad, Drew Struzan, Dave Taylor and David Lynch.

We may not have always agreed with some of the choices made, but these were influential figures. We honour their passing and thank them for their contributions to the art form we love.

And, in the spirit of remembering;

1) What were your favourite new comics this year?

This could mean:

Single issues?
Storylines?
Imprints?
Favourite new character(s)?

These can be new titles, or long established ones having a new breath of life blown into them?

(We don't want to know your least favourites, lets keep this positive)

Tomorrow we look to the future, but today, as we balance between the new and the old.... we look back... as long as we don't look down!

Since my usual inspirational blond twink hero is currently pursuing an alternate career path as a genocidal glam rocker, I have to revert to my default sunshine boy.

So, I love that the comics have played up that Luke Skywalker is trusting and optimistic, but not a completely clueless idiot.

He trusts, and he believes in the inherent goodness of people, but he's not entirely gullible.

In the comments to these weekly posts (and only these posts), it's your chance to go as off topic as you like.

Talk about non-comics stuff, thread derail, and just generally chat among yourselves.

The intent of these posts is to chat and have some fun and, sure, vent a little as required. Reasoned debate is fine, as always, but if you have to ask if something is going over the line, think carefully before posting please.

Normal board rules about conduct and behaviour still apply, of course.

It's been suggested that, if discussing spoilers for recent media events, it might be advisable to consider using the rot13 method to prevent other members seeing spoilers in passing.

The world situation is the world situation. If you're following the news, you know it as much as I do, if you're not, then there are better sources than scans_daily. But please, no doomscrolling, for your own sake.

In a move so inept one has to wonder how accidental it was, it appears that a significant number of Epstein files redactions can be undone by the simple process of copying and pasting the text into another file, they changed the font colour, but that was it. In a possibly even more bizarre twist it seems that the reason the redacting was so slipshod is that DOGE slashed the budget for Adobe Professional licences and they had to use the much less fancy basic free version instead. Once again, satire can't keep up with reality.

Not that impressed with the Christmas TV selection this year (and missing my usual "Doctor Who" fix), but did catch up with a few films, including FINALLY getting to watch the new "Superman".
